What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is how much matter a body contains, measured in kilograms, and it does not depend on where you are. Weight is the force gravity exerts on that body, measured in newtons. A mass of seventy kilograms is the same on Earth, on the Moon and in free fall, but its weight is about 686 N on Earth and roughly six times less on the Moon. Everyday speech calls mass 'weight'; physics does not.
