Blood alcohol calculator

The estimate uses the Widmark formula: grams of alcohol divided by the body's water content, minus what time has burned off. Actual per-mille also depends on food, metabolism and health — no calculator can say when driving is safe.

Basis of the calculation

This uses the Widmark formula, assuming alcohol clears at roughly 0.15 ‰ per hour. It is a rough estimate — real levels depend on metabolism, food and health. Do not use it to decide whether to drive.

What is the legal alcohol limit in Estonia?

Under Estonia's Traffic Act the driving limit is 0.2 per mille — effectively zero, since even one beer typically exceeds it. From 1.5 per mille, driving becomes a criminal offence rather than a misdemeanour. Novice and professional drivers often face a strict employer zero.

How fast does alcohol leave the body?

On average, blood alcohol falls by 0.1–0.15 per mille an hour, and neither coffee, sauna nor exercise speeds it up — the liver works at its own pace. After a long evening you can still be over the limit at noon the next day. Plan the morning without the car.

Why does the calculator differ from a breathalyser?

The calculator models an average person; a breathalyser measures you, now. Absorption speed, food, medication and even fatigue shift the real reading. When in doubt, trust the measurement over the estimate — and if you intend to drive, the only reliable answer is zero drinks.
